Zamfara State – The Nigerian Army has announced the rescue of nine kidnapped victims, the recovery of 56 rustled livestock, and the arrest of a suspected terrorist following separate intelligence driven operations conducted across the North West region.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, said troops on a fighting patrol rescued the nine victims, comprising three women, four men and two children, in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The rescued victims had been abducted by terrorists on July 9 along the Tsafe to Kuchere Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, before being moved across the state border into Katsina.
The recovery of 56 rustled livestock alongside the rescue operation points to the continued overlap between kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling among armed groups operating across the North West’s forest corridors.
Troops say the suspected terrorist arrested during the operation is being interrogated for further intelligence on the wider network responsible for the abduction and related criminal activity in the area.
The operation adds to a series of rescue efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma in recent months, as security forces continue to target kidnapping networks operating across Zamfara, Katsina and neighbouring states.
