Zamfara State – Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has revealed plans to create thousands of jobs for residents by reviving textile industries, cotton ginneries and oil mills across the state.

The governor made the disclosure after joining Vice President Kashim Shettima on an inspection of an integrated industrial zone near Cotonou, Benin Republic, where cotton, cashew nuts, soybeans and other agricultural commodities are processed into finished and semi finished products.

Lawal said the Cotonou facility offered valuable lessons for Zamfara’s own agro industrial ambitions, given the state’s significant cotton production capacity that has historically been underutilised due to the decline of local processing infrastructure.

The planned revival of textile industries and cotton ginneries is expected to create employment opportunities across the state’s agricultural value chain, from raw cotton production through to finished textile products.

The initiative adds to a series of agro industrial ambitions across northern Nigerian states seeking to leverage agricultural resources for job creation and economic diversification.

Details on the specific investment scale and timeline for reviving Zamfara’s textile and cotton processing infrastructure are expected to be released as the state government finalises its industrial development plans.
