The European Union has announced fresh support packages worth 70 million euros for Nigeria, including 45 million euros for security and peacebuilding and 25 million euros for agriculture, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership.
The announcement was made Thursday during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
According to a statement released by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the meeting reviewed progress made since the Second Nigeria EU Ministerial Dialogue in March 2026 and explored new areas of cooperation covering security, trade, investment and agriculture.
The agriculture component of the package is expected to support ongoing Federal Government efforts to boost food production and strengthen agricultural resilience, complementing existing initiatives including Nigeria’s recent agricultural intelligence partnership with Morocco.
The security component adds to a growing list of international partnerships aimed at supporting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and peacebuilding efforts, coming in the same week President Tinubu urged North East governors to intensify their own security efforts.
Officials from both sides said further details on the implementation timeline for the EU support package would be worked out in the coming months as both parties deepen their strategic partnership.
