The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, on Thursday held talks with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, on Nigeria’s democratic governance, economic situation and the need to safeguard the credibility of future elections.
The meeting comes as the envoy prepares to conclude his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria, with discussions covering institutional strengthening and electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general election.
The engagement adds to a series of diplomatic and political meetings Obi has held with foreign envoys and stakeholders as he continues positioning himself as a leading opposition candidate ahead of next year’s polls.
Discussions between Obi and Montgomery reportedly touched on growing national conversations around electoral reforms and efforts by political stakeholders to strengthen democratic institutions.
The British High Commission has not issued a separate statement on the meeting, though such engagements have become a regular feature of pre election diplomatic activity in Abuja.
Obi is expected to continue similar engagements with diplomatic missions and international stakeholders as part of his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 election.
