Oyo State – A headmaster abducted from a farm road in Igbojaye, Oyo State, has regained his freedom after sustained pressure from a joint security operation forced his abductors to abandon him, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed.
The victim, identified as the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, Budo Aare, and popularly known as Onaiye, was kidnapped after gunmen accosted him along the Igbojaye Budo Aare farm road on the evening of July 11, with his abductors initially demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command deployed its Anti Kidnapping Squad alongside other tactical units and sister security agencies immediately after receiving a distress report, launching a coordinated operation to track the victim and secure his release.
Following the immediate deployment of the joint operation and sustained investigative pressure on the abductors, the hoodlums abandoned the victim, who regained his freedom on the evening of July 13, the police said.
The victim has since been taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment, and will be debriefed by investigators once medical attention is complete, as part of ongoing efforts to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
