The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have both confirmed the completed upload of their presidential, vice presidential and National Assembly candidates onto the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Candidate Nomination Portal, ahead of a deadline expiring at midnight tonight.
INEC had shifted the original submission deadline of July 11 to midnight on July 14, after receiving an appeal from the Inter Party Advisory Council on behalf of parties that needed more time to complete their nominations.
PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed described the completed exercise as another milestone for the party, confirming the upload of its presidential candidate, running mate and National Assembly candidates, with governorship and state assembly nominations still being finalised ahead of the new cutoff.
The APC used the occasion to criticise opposition parties that struggled to meet the original deadline, with National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka arguing that the extension exposed organisational weaknesses among rival parties and questioned their readiness to govern.
Other parties, including the Labour Party, have also reported substantial progress, with officials citing figures of over a thousand candidates certified across senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly positions ahead of the deadline.
The completion of candidate uploads marks a significant milestone in preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with INEC expected to move on to subsequent stages of its electoral timetable once the extended deadline lapses tonight.
