Tinubu Urges Governors to Redirect Flyover Funding Toward Security

President Bola Tinubu has urged state governors to stop building flyovers where not strictly necessary, urging them instead to redirect such resources toward ventures and amenities that would help tackle Nigeria’s prevailing insecurity.

Tinubu made the appeal while addressing a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State who visited him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he also spoke at length about the country’s security challenges.

The President stressed the importance of intelligence and vigilance in solving security challenges, calling on Nigerians to be extra vigilant and familiar with their neighbours and communities so as to report strange persons or occurrences.

His remarks reflect a broader push by the administration to reprioritise state level infrastructure spending toward security focused interventions, amid continued pressure from recurring kidnapping and banditry incidents nationwide.

The meeting was also attended by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Power, the Chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service, and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.

State governors have not yet publicly responded to Tinubu’s call, though the remarks are expected to add to ongoing conversations about infrastructure prioritisation amid Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
