Plateau State – The Qua’an Pan Local Government Council of Plateau State has banned the settlement of unauthorised herders migrating into the area and warned against grazing cattle on cultivated farmlands, as part of measures to strengthen security and promote peaceful coexistence among residents.
The directive was announced by the Executive Chairman of the council, Christopher Manship, during a stakeholders’ meeting with traditional rulers and leaders of Miyetti Allah held at the Felix Dakyap Guest House, Doemak.
The ban follows a pattern of attacks linked to farmer herder tensions across Plateau State, with local authorities increasingly turning to settlement restrictions as a preventive measure against further violence.
Traditional rulers and Miyetti Allah leaders who attended the meeting are expected to communicate the new directive to herder communities under their influence, as the council works to enforce compliance across the local government area.
The move adds to a series of state and local government interventions aimed at curbing recurring violence between farming communities and herders across Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
Authorities say continued dialogue between local government officials, traditional rulers and herder representatives remains essential to preventing further escalation of farmer herder conflicts in the area.
