Saraki Calls for Unity, sets for Kwara Battle Ahead 2027 Elections

Former Senate President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has declared that the party is firmly on course to reclaim power in the state during the 2027 general elections. He made the statement during a strategic meeting with party stakeholders in Ilorin, urging members to put aside differences and work collectively towards victory.

Saraki said the PDP has rebuilt its structures across Kwara’s 16 local government areas, with renewed grassroots mobilisation and reconciliation efforts. He noted that the party’s organisational strength and growing support base place it in a strong position to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Senate President stressed that internal disputes must not derail the party’s chances. He urged members to embrace dialogue and discipline, warning that factionalism could weaken the PDP’s campaign. “Our strength lies in unity,” Saraki said, adding that the party must present a united front to win the confidence of voters.

Saraki highlighted the importance of reconnecting with the electorate, particularly youth and women groups. He commended local leaders for reviving ward meetings and community outreach programmes, which he described as critical to rebuilding trust and expanding the party’s influence.

The PDP leader outlined plans to focus on policies addressing unemployment, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He said the party’s campaign will centre on improving living conditions and restoring public trust in governance. Saraki added that the PDP’s vision for Kwara is anchored on inclusive development and transparent leadership.

Political analysts say Saraki’s confidence reflects the PDP’s growing momentum in Kwara. They note that the party has regained visibility through consistent engagement and strategic communication. However, analysts caution that success will depend on how effectively the PDP manages internal rivalries and sustains its outreach efforts.

Residents in Ilorin and other parts of Kwara expressed mixed views. Some believe the PDP’s renewed energy could reshape the political landscape, while others argue that the APC still enjoys strong support due to incumbency. Civil society groups have urged both parties to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.

Saraki appealed to political actors to conduct peaceful campaigns and respect electoral laws. He said the PDP will prioritise civility and constructive engagement throughout the election period. He also called on security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free and fair process.

As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, the PDP leadership in Kwara is expected to unveil its campaign roadmap in the coming months. Saraki reaffirmed his commitment to guiding the party towards victory, saying the PDP remains the best platform to deliver credible governance and restore public confidence in the state’s leadership.
