Plateau State – A coalition of more than 11 indigenous youth associations in Plateau State has called on the Federal Government to deploy additional operatives of the Department of State Services to communities under repeated attack, arguing that intelligence led operations are critical to ending a renewed wave of killings.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition at a joint press conference in Jos, Chairman of the Ethnic Coalition in the Northern Zone, Dalyop Mwantiri, alleged that at least 50 people had been killed within the past week in fresh attacks on communities across the state.
The coalition cited the establishment of a DSS operational camp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in May 2026 as evidence that intelligence led security operations could significantly reduce attacks, saying communities that had become accustomed to nightly terror began to experience relative peace following the deployment.
Despite the earlier gains, the coalition said terrorists invaded Tanjol and Vwak hamlets of Jol community and Wereng Rim of Riyom Local Government Area on July 14, injuring two vigilantes and killing one person identified as Mangai Musa.
The group urged both the Federal Government and Plateau State Government to extend the Barkin Ladi security model to other flashpoints, including Riyom, Bokkos, Mangu, Bassa, Jos South, Kanam and Quan Pan local government areas.
Security agencies have not yet responded directly to the coalition’s demands, though the renewed attacks add pressure on authorities to expand intelligence led operations across Plateau’s most vulnerable communities.
