LAGOS — Lagos State is set to host the first Lagos Entertainment Association Games and Awards, known as LEAGA. Organisers say the event will combine competitive sports, cultural performances, and an awards ceremony in a unique celebration of Nigeria’s creative industry.
LEAGA 2026 is being billed as a landmark event for Nigeria’s entertainment sector. It will bring together Nollywood actors, musicians, comedians, content creators, and other entertainment professionals for a multi-day programme of competitions and networking.
Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Arts, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, confirmed government support for the event. She said LEAGA fits into Lagos’s broader plan to develop the creative economy. “Lagos is the entertainment capital of Africa. LEAGA is a celebration of that status,” Benson-Awoyinka said.
The event is expected to draw thousands of participants and spectators. Organisers say it will also create opportunities for industry stakeholders to connect with investors and brands looking to sponsor entertainment talent.
What to Expect at LEAGA
LEAGA will feature sporting competitions across categories including football, athletics, and swimming. Participants will represent their respective entertainment guilds and associations. Awards will be presented to top performers in both sports and entertainment.
In addition, the event will host panel discussions on the business of entertainment, digital distribution, and intellectual property rights. Young creatives will have access to mentorship sessions with established industry figures.
Nollywood’s Actors Guild of Nigeria, the Musicians Union of Nigeria, and the Association of Movie Producers are among the bodies supporting LEAGA. Organisers say the event will take place at various venues across Lagos, with the main awards ceremony at a major indoor arena.
Lagos and the Creative Economy
Lagos generates the bulk of Nigeria’s entertainment industry revenue. The city’s Nollywood productions, music acts, and stand-up comedy shows attract audiences across Africa and the diaspora. However, workers in the creative sector say they lack structured platforms for networking and recognition.
LEAGA is designed to address that gap. Organisers say a regular annual event will help build stronger professional bonds within the industry and create a platform for recognising talent across all creative fields.
A date for LEAGA 2026 has not yet been publicly announced. Organisers say they are finalising logistics and will make a full announcement within the next two weeks. Registration for participants is expected to open online shortly after the official date is confirmed.
