They promised it. They delivered it. And Nigerian music has not been the same since.

Wizkid and Asake have released their long-anticipated joint EP, Real Vol. 1 — a project that Nigerian music fans have been waiting for since the two artists first teased their collaboration. The EP dropped to enormous fanfare, generating some of the biggest first-day streaming numbers in Nigerian music history this year.

Wizkid is Nigeria’s most globally celebrated Afrobeats artist. Asake is the genre’s most commercially dominant voice of the past three years. Putting them together on a single project is the equivalent of combining two of the most potent forces in Nigerian popular music.

The result, by early accounts, lives up to the expectation. Tracks from the EP began trending immediately on Spotify, Apple Music, and TikTok. Consequently, Nigerian social media spent Wednesday in a state of collective musical celebration — a welcome distraction from a week of difficult news.

Real Vol. 1 blends Wizkid’s signature smooth Afrobeats sensibility with Asake’s Afropop and amapiano-influenced sound. The combination is both unexpected and natural. Furthermore, the production quality reflects the level of investment both artists bring to their craft.

Early listener reactions describe the project as the kind of record that will be played at every Nigerian party, wedding, and gathering for months to come. That is high praise in a music culture where the test of a song’s worth is how well it holds the dancefloor.

The Bigger Picture

This release comes at a moment when Nigerian music is operating at its highest level of global influence. With Burna Boy at the World Cup opening ceremony, Davido at the Countdown Concert, and now Wizkid and Asake dropping a joint EP, June 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most significant months in Afrobeats history.

Real Vol. 1 is available on all streaming platforms. If you have not heard it yet, the rest of Nigeria strongly advises you to fix that.
