Cute Abiola Apologises to Patience Jonathan Over Viral Crying Clip
SHARE

LAGOS — Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Cute Abiola has publicly apologised to former First Lady Patience Jonathan following the circulation of a viral clip in which he was seen crying about the kidnapping crisis in Nigeria. Legit.ng confirmed the apology on Monday.

The clip, which showed Cute Abiola in an emotional state talking about the dangers faced by Nigerian children, went viral across social media. Patience Jonathan reportedly commented on the clip in a way that Cute Abiola felt required a formal response and apology. He said she had warned him about something related to the content of the clip.

“Mama warned us. She warned us and we did not listen. I apologise to former First Lady Patience Jonathan for my conduct. She is a mother to this nation and deserves our respect,” Cute Abiola said in his apology post on Instagram.

Kidnapping and Celebrity Emotion

The viral clip of Cute Abiola crying about kidnapping reflects a broader emotional state among many Nigerians who feel helpless in the face of the school abductions and security crisis that has dominated May and June 2026. Several celebrities have used their platforms to express grief, anger, and frustration about the ongoing insecurity.

Patience Jonathan, whose own tenure as First Lady coincided with the Chibok kidnapping, has strong personal feelings about the kidnapping crisis. Her warning referenced in Cute Abiola’s apology was interpreted by observers as a caution about how public expressions of grief can sometimes be exploited or misrepresented.

The exchange between Cute Abiola and Patience Jonathan generated significant discussion about the appropriate way for public figures to express and channel their emotions about national crises. Some said authentic emotional expression is important. Others said it must be accompanied by actionable advocacy rather than performance.
