Kano State – The Kano State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of five persons following a devastating rainstorm in Bichi Local Government Area of the state last week, correcting earlier media reports that had put the toll at eight.

The agency’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, confirmed the figure in a telephone interview, saying personnel had already visited the area to assess the damage caused by the disaster.

“Five persons lost their lives in Bichi as a result of the rainstorm, not eight as erroneously reported by some media outlets,” Kubarachi said, seeking to clarify the record on the disaster’s toll.

The Kano State House of Assembly had earlier adopted a motion of urgent public importance on the disaster, sponsored by the member representing Bichi Constituency, Lawan Shehu, during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore.

The rainstorm adds to a pattern of severe weather related disasters affecting northern Nigerian states this rainy season, with state emergency agencies continuing to assess and respond to damage across affected communities.

Authorities say relief and recovery efforts in Bichi are ongoing, with the state emergency management agency continuing to monitor affected communities for further needs following the disaster
