Zamfara State – Residents of Zamfara State are celebrating the killing of a notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Sani Yellow, by a combined team of the Civilian Joint Task Force, locally known as Askarawan Zamfara, and local hunters.
The bandit warlord was killed in Anka Local Government Area during an exchange of fire while attempting to repel an attack by the joint civilian security team, according to a confirmation by Zamfara Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
Sani Yellow was described as one of the most influential bandit commanders terrorising communities and highways across Anka, Bukkuyum and Maru local government areas, and was also linked to broader banditry activity across the North West region.
His death marks a significant blow to bandit networks operating in the area, with residents expressing relief at the removal of a commander whose activities had disrupted farming, trade and free movement across affected communities for years.
Civilian joint task forces and community hunters have increasingly played a central role in Zamfara’s fight against banditry, often working alongside formal security agencies to track and confront armed groups operating from forest hideouts.
Security analysts say the killing could disrupt operations within Sani Yellow’s network in the short term, though they caution that sustained gains will depend on continued coordination between community security groups and formal security agencies.
