The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a raid on their hideout in the state.
The operation, which took place over the weekend, was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle criminal gangs responsible for abductions and violent crimes in the region. Police officials said the suspects were neutralised after engaging officers in a gun battle.
According to the command’s spokesperson, the raid followed intelligence reports about the activities of a kidnapping syndicate operating around rural communities in Imo. He explained that officers acted swiftly to prevent further attacks on residents.

“Our operatives stormed the hideout based on credible intelligence. On sighting the police, the suspects opened fire. In the exchange, two of them were neutralised while others escaped with injuries,” the spokesperson said.
The police recovered weapons and other items from the scene, including locally made firearms and communication devices believed to have been used to coordinate abductions. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang.
Residents in the affected communities have expressed relief over the operation, noting that kidnappings had become a major concern in recent months. Community leaders commended the police for responding to intelligence and urged continued vigilance.
