Adeleke wins re-election as Osun State governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the Osun State governorship election, securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

The declaration was made on Sunday morning by the returning officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, following the conclusion of voting and collation across the state. The election, which featured 15 candidates, saw Adeleke win 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji clinched 11.

The Independent National Electoral Commission uploaded 98.19 per cent of polling unit results to its Result Viewing Portal, with 3,695 out of 3,763 expected results made available to the public. Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress came third with 17,180 votes.

Voting took place across 3,763 polling units in the state, with INEC reporting that all units were operational by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The election had been closely watched, with President Bola Tinubu earlier charging INEC and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process.

The outcome extends Adeleke’s tenure as governor of Osun State, marking a significant political victory for the Accord Party in southwestern Nigeria. Jubilation was reported across the state following the announcement of the results.
