Police Nab 2 Edo Kidnap and Murder Case Suspects in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command arrested two suspects wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case in the Okada area of Edo State on Sunday, June 7, 2026, following intelligence-driven operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ijebu-Ode.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He identified the suspects as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20. According to Babaseyi, the breakthrough followed the June 4 apprehension of the suspects by operatives of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, after which extensive profiling and investigation linked them to the Edo State case.

‘Following extensive profiling and investigation, the suspects were identified as being wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State,’ Babaseyi stated, adding that the suspects would be transferred to Edo State for further investigation and prosecution.

Cross-State Cooperation Delivers Result

The Ogun arrest highlights the growing effectiveness of cross-state security coordination between Nigerian police commands and specialised units such as the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Nigeria Forest Security Service. Suspects involved in violent crimes increasingly flee across state boundaries to evade capture, making inter-state intelligence sharing and joint operations critical to successful prosecutions.

Furthermore, the Ogun State Police said it was continuing investigations to determine whether the two suspects were linked to any broader criminal network operating across southwestern Nigeria. The command added that residents in Ijebu-Ode and surrounding communities had provided valuable intelligence that enabled the arrest.

However, crime analysts noted that while the arrests were encouraging, the broader pattern of kidnapping for ransom and violent crime in the southwest and south-south regions of Nigeria shows little sign of abating. Still, law enforcement officials said they were making measurable progress in dismantling criminal networks through sustained intelligence operations. Meanwhile, a self-confessed kidnapper in Plateau State separately revealed details about his network’s operations in the Mangu area during interrogation, providing fresh intelligence to security agencies. Notably, the suspect admitted that his group targeted rural communities where security presence was thin. Consequently, the case adds to a growing body of confessional evidence that is helping security agencies map the geography of criminal activity across the country.

Ado-Ekiti Domestic Stabbing Raises Alarm

In a separate crime incident, a man identified as Onipede Dare in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was reported to have stabbed his wife to death over alleged infidelity over the weekend, according to Nigeriacrime.com. The incident drew public condemnation and renewed calls for stronger law enforcement action against domestic violence in Nigeria. In addition, Ogun State Police said they were investigating two herbalists and other individuals in connection with a separate case involving alleged criminal activity in the state.
