Suspected B/Haram Attack Police Inspector, 7 Others in Adamawa

A police inspector and seven civilians were killed in Adamawa State following a suspected Boko Haram attack late Monday night. The incident occurred in Gombi Local Government Area, where armed men stormed communities, opening fire on residents and security personnel.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and vehicles, shooting indiscriminately before setting houses ablaze. The police inspector, who was on duty at the time, was reportedly targeted as the assailants advanced into the area.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the attack, noting that reinforcements have been deployed to secure the affected communities. A spokesperson said investigations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and restore calm.

Local residents described the attack as sudden and devastating. “We were preparing to sleep when gunshots erupted. People ran in different directions, but many were caught,” one survivor recounted.

Community leaders have appealed for stronger security presence, stressing that repeated attacks have disrupted farming activities and forced families to flee their homes. They warned that without urgent intervention, rural communities may continue to suffer losses.

The Adamawa State Government condemned the killings and assured residents of its commitment to work with federal security agencies to strengthen patrols. Officials emphasized that restoring peace in vulnerable areas remains a priority.

Security analysts note that Boko Haram fighters have increasingly targeted rural communities in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states, despite ongoing military operations in the North-East. The group, which has waged an insurgency for more than a decade, continues to pose a threat to lives and livelihoods in the region.

Humanitarian groups have also raised concerns about displacement. Families affected by the attack are seeking refuge in nearby towns, while local volunteers are providing emergency support. Relief agencies say more assistance is needed to cater to the injured and displaced.

The latest incident underscores the persistent challenge of insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East, where communities remain vulnerable to insurgent attacks despite military efforts.

For residents of Gombi, the hope is that increased patrols and government intervention will prevent further bloodshed and allow them to return to their normal lives.
