The Deputy Governor of Benue State has declared that the state will deliver one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He made the statement during a political gathering in Makurdi, stressing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has consolidated its support base in the state.

According to the Deputy Governor, the APC in Benue has intensified grassroots mobilisation to ensure Tinubu secures overwhelming support. He said the party’s structures across local government areas are being strengthened to guarantee voter turnout.

He added that the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, and social welfare programmes have boosted confidence among residents, making the one million vote target realistic.

Party officials explained that mobilisation efforts include town hall meetings, youth engagement, and women-focused initiatives. They noted that the APC is working to expand its reach in rural communities, where voter turnout often determines electoral outcomes.

The Deputy Governor emphasised that the campaign will prioritise issue-based messaging, highlighting Tinubu’s policies on economic growth, security, and job creation.

Political analysts say the pledge reflects the APC’s determination to consolidate its influence in Benue, a state traditionally seen as politically competitive. They caution, however, that delivering one million votes will depend on voter confidence, party unity, and effective campaign strategies.

Analysts also note that opposition parties are likely to challenge the APC’s dominance, making the 2027 elections in Benue a closely watched contest.

Residents expressed mixed views on the Deputy Governor’s statement. Supporters of the APC welcomed the pledge, saying it demonstrates confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. Critics, however, argued that promises of large vote numbers are premature and should not overshadow pressing governance issues in the state.

Civil society groups urged political leaders to focus on credible elections rather than numerical targets. They stressed that free and fair polls, not projections, will determine the legitimacy of outcomes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment to conducting transparent elections in 2027. Officials said preparations are underway to improve voter registration, logistics, and security. INEC warned political actors against making statements that could heighten tension or undermine public trust.

As the 2027 elections approach, Benue is expected to remain a battleground state. The Deputy Governor’s pledge of one million votes for Tinubu underscores the APC’s confidence but also sets a high benchmark that will test the party’s organisational strength.

Observers say the months ahead will reveal whether the APC can translate its mobilisation efforts into actual votes, or whether opposition parties will erode its support base.
