Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of exploiting the death of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, for political gain, while refuting bribery allegations linked to the late politician ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku’s response follows remarks attributed to Obasanjo referencing Na’Abba’s political legacy in ways the former vice president’s camp described as opportunistic and politically motivated ahead of next year’s polls.

The exchange between two of Nigeria’s most prominent political elder statesmen adds to a series of pointed political disputes that have characterised the early stages of the 2027 election campaign season.

Atiku’s camp maintained that bribery allegations linked to the late Na’Abba, which had resurfaced in political commentary, were unfounded and should not be used to score political points following his death.

The disagreement reflects the increasingly personal tone of political discourse ahead of the 2027 election, with senior political figures trading accusations even over matters connected to deceased colleagues.

Neither Obasanjo nor his associates have issued a detailed public response to Atiku’s accusations at the time of this report.
