Akwa Ibom Police Recover Firearm, nab Armed Robbery Suspect

Uyo, Akwa Ibom – The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect in Uyo and recovered a locally fabricated firearm.

DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, announced on Monday that the arrest occurred during a stop-and-search operation near the Mayflower axis on Oron Road, Uyo.

According to John, the Command received a distress call at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 27 from an Ikot Okubo resident reporting suspected armed robbery activities.

Police personnel, in collaboration with community members, promptly responded by cordoning off and searching the area.

“During the operation, a suspect was apprehended, and a medium-sized, locally fabricated firearm was found in his possession.”

John stated. Other members of the criminal gang fled upon the police’s arrival.

A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police spokesperson added that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the arrested suspect’s involvement in the criminal activities and to identify and dismantle the broader criminal network.

John reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Akwa Ibom State and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid in the fight against crime.
