Mr. Peter Azubuike, the Abia State Labour Party (LP) Chairman, has declared that the party is on track for a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections. He confidently stated that if elections were held today, the LP would secure a win “before 2 pm.”
Azubuike made these remarks on Monday during a press briefing at the LP State Secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He confirmed that the party has successfully resolved its internal conflicts and is now fully prepared for the upcoming electoral cycle.
Highlighting the LP’s strong grassroots presence, Azubuike cited the party’s current electoral successes as evidence of its dominance.
“If INEC conducts an election today, we will win before 2 p.m. because we are the only political party with a strong grassroots presence,” he asserted. “We have 184 councillors, 17 local government chairmen, and 20 members of the Abia State House of Assembly. That is evidence of our widespread acceptance and grassroots support.”
Regarding candidate selection for 2027, Azubuike explained that the party adopted a direct primary system to ensure transparency and prevent disputes. He refuted claims that only a single nomination form was sold in certain constituencies.
“It is not true that only one form was sold. In several constituencies, multiple aspirants purchased forms. In fact, not all sitting lawmakers secured the ticket. A clear example is the Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, where the incumbent did not get the return ticket,” he clarified.
Azubuike further stated that the LP has significantly invested in strengthening its structures from the ward to the state level, expressing confidence in achieving another “massive victory” in 2027.
The LP chairman also confirmed that the Senator Nenadi Usman-led national leadership is the faction recognized by INEC.
He noted that the party has already been granted access to the INEC portal for uploading candidates, which he views as validation of its legitimacy with the electoral body.
Azubuike concluded by reiterating the party’s dedication to internal democracy, grassroots mobilization, and effective leadership as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
