The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has firmly rejected recent allegations suggesting that the agency is involved in smuggling activities or allowing revenue leakages at the nation’s borders.
Speaking in Abuja, Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada described the claims as unfounded and misleading, stressing that the service remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests.
Maiwada explained that the NCS has consistently strengthened its border management systems, deployed modern technology, and enforced strict compliance measures to prevent illegal trade. He noted that the agency’s operations are guided by transparency and accountability.

“The Nigeria Customs Service does not condone smuggling or revenue leakage. Our officers are working tirelessly to ensure that government revenue is protected and that legitimate trade thrives,” Maiwada stated.
He added that the service has introduced advanced electronic platforms to monitor cargo clearance and track revenue collection, making it difficult for fraudulent practices to occur.
