Explosion Kills Arab IED Experts, other ISWAP members in Borno

An accidental explosion has killed several members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, including bombmakers, a medical officer, and foreign Improvised Explosive Device (IED) experts.

Security sources confirmed that the blast occurred in a hideout used by ISWAP militants in the Marte axis of Borno. The explosion reportedly happened while the group was assembling explosives. Among those killed were senior bombmakers, a medical officer, and Arab nationals who had been training fighters in IED construction.

The deaths represent a significant setback for ISWAP, which has relied heavily on IEDs to target military convoys and civilian communities in the North-East. The loss of experienced bombmakers and foreign trainers is expected to weaken the group’s operational capacity.
