The Kabiru Turaki led Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has said it will appeal a Federal High Court judgment that struck out its suit seeking recognition of its leadership, insisting the legal battle is far from over.

Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja upheld a preliminary objection raised by the defendants and struck out the suit filed by the Adolphus Wabara led Board of Trustees of the PDP and other founding members.

The suit had sought, among other reliefs, recognition of the Turaki led Interim National Working Committee as the legitimate leadership structure of the party amid an ongoing internal leadership dispute.

A rival PDP faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had challenged the court’s jurisdiction to hear the matter, contributing to the case’s eventual dismissal.

The dispute over the PDP’s leadership structure has persisted for months, complicating the party’s efforts to finalise a unified candidate list ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Turaki faction’s decision to appeal signals that the internal leadership battle within the PDP is likely to continue well into the party’s preparations for next year’s polls.
