Osun State – Dr Ibraheem Adekunle has insisted that he remains the duly nominated Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District, dismissing claims by Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi to the same ticket.
Fadeyi had earlier resigned from the All Progressives Congress, returned to the PDP, and claimed to have emerged as the Osun Central senatorial candidate of a faction of the party, according to earlier Vanguard reporting.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Friday, Adekunle warned against any attempt to substitute his name as the PDP candidate for the 2027 general election, saying he would seek legal redress if such a move was made.
The dispute adds to a broader pattern of candidate nomination disputes affecting the PDP across multiple states, as the party continues to navigate leadership and structural challenges ahead of next year’s polls.
Osun State’s political landscape remains particularly charged ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election, with candidate disputes across parties adding further uncertainty to the electoral calendar.
The PDP’s national leadership has not yet issued a public statement resolving the competing claims to the Osun Central senatorial ticket.
