Ogazi, Onojuvwevwo, Udo Qualify for Commonwealth Games 400m Finals

Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo and Edidiong Udo have all qualified for the men’s and women’s 400m finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ogazi, the 2026 world leader and reigning NCAA champion, underlined his medal credentials by winning the first men’s semi final on Thursday in 44.52 seconds.

Udo also secured his place in the final after a strong performance in the third semi final, running 45.55 seconds, initially finishing third before a disqualification elevated him to an automatic qualification spot.

Onojuvwevwo’s qualification for the women’s final adds to what has been a strong showing for Nigeria’s 400m runners heading into the tournament’s culminating stages.

The trio’s advancement to Friday’s finals boosts Nigeria’s medal prospects in the sprint events, building on the country’s strong overall performance at the Glasgow Games so far.

Team Nigeria officials have expressed confidence that the strong semi final showings could translate into multiple podium finishes across the 400m finals.
