Lagos State – The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking and other transnational organised crimes with the handover of two rescued victims of human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.
The Navy said the victims were rescued during a targeted anti human trafficking operation before being transferred to NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Command in Ikeja for rehabilitation, protection and further investigation.
Human trafficking remains one of Nigeria’s major security and human rights challenges, with security agencies and NAPTIP intensifying joint efforts to dismantle trafficking syndicates operating across the country.
The Navy said the operation forms part of its broader mandate to combat transnational organised crimes, including human trafficking, piracy and other illicit activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
NAPTIP is expected to provide the rescued victims with rehabilitation support and psychological care as part of standard protocol for trafficking survivors, while investigations continue into the wider network behind the operation.
Security agencies say continued inter agency collaboration between the Navy, NAPTIP and other security bodies remains critical to dismantling trafficking networks operating across Nigeria’s borders and coastal areas.
