LAGOS, May 18, 2026 — Lagos State has released more details on the inaugural Lagos Entertainment Association Games and Awards, known as LEAGA. The event will bring together Nigerian entertainment professionals for a unique mix of competitive sports, cultural performances, and an industry awards ceremony.
Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Arts Toke Benson-Awoyinka confirmed the event on Monday. She said LEAGA is a first-of-its-kind initiative that reflects Lagos’s position as Africa’s entertainment capital. It is designed to celebrate creativity, talent, and community.
“LEAGA is more than an awards show. It is a festival that recognises the full humanity of entertainment professionals. They are athletes, artists, and business people all at once,” Benson-Awoyinka said.
The event will feature sports competitions across categories including football, table tennis, athletics, and swimming. Teams will represent various entertainment guilds. Points earned in sport will contribute to an overall LEAGA standings table.
Industry Impact
Entertainment stakeholders say LEAGA fills a gap in Nigeria’s creative sector. Unlike the AMVCA and other film-focused awards, LEAGA spans all entertainment disciplines including music, comedy, digital content creation, and fashion.
In addition, the event will host business conferences on entertainment law, copyright protection, and revenue diversification. These sessions target both established stars and emerging talent looking to build sustainable careers.
Furthermore, Lagos State has invited international entertainment investors and platform representatives to attend. Officials hope the event will generate deal-making activity that benefits Nigerian creators across all sectors.
When and Where
Organisers are finalising venues and a confirmed date. However, insiders say LEAGA will take place in late July 2026. The main awards ceremony will be held at a major indoor arena in Lagos. Sports events will take place at different venues across the city.
Registration for participating entertainment associations opens this week. All registered bodies under the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism and Arts are eligible to enter teams for the sports competitions.
Nollywood’s Actors Guild of Nigeria and the Musicians Union of Nigeria are already confirmed participants. Organisers expect LEAGA to become an annual fixture on the Nigerian entertainment calendar, growing each year as more associations and sponsors come on board.
