Plateau State – The body of a man was discovered beheaded on Tuesday at the Permanent Site of the University of Jos, with the assailants reportedly fleeing the scene with the victim’s severed head, prompting heightened security around the campus.
Several students and staff members of the university, including the institution’s Chief Security Officer, Mr Agama Tangni, confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos, with Tangni clarifying that the deceased was neither a student nor a staff member of the institution.
Police have since launched an investigation into the killing, with security personnel deployed around the campus as the university works to reassure students and staff amid concerns raised by the gruesome nature of the discovery.
The identity of the victim had not been disclosed at the time of this report, and authorities have not yet established a motive for the killing or identified any suspects in connection with the incident.
The university community has expressed shock over the incident, with calls for improved security around the campus perimeter following the discovery, which occurred in a section of the Permanent Site accessible to non students.
Plateau State Police Command is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue, with the case adding to broader concerns about security around tertiary institutions in the state.
