Iran Slams UK Plan to Ban Support for Revolutionary Guards

The British government announced plans to ban support for the IRGC under new national security laws.

The Home Office said the IRGC has engaged in activities that threaten lives and intimidate individuals on UK soil.

The legislation, to be presented in Parliament, will make it easier to prosecute those linked to the IRGC and other designated groups.

Offenders could face life imprisonment for acts such as sabotage or arson carried out on behalf of these organisations.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry rejected the UK’s designation, calling it a direct attack on a state institution.

Officials stressed that the IRGC is an official branch of Iran’s armed forces.

Tehran accused London of violating international law by targeting a sovereign nation’s military.

Iran described the move as politically motivated and warned it would escalate tensions between both countries.

The UK also banned support for the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right (IMCR), accused of antisemitic attacks in Britain.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed to prevent Britain from becoming a “playground” for foreign states seeking to spread fear and violence.

The new law also covers proxies linked to Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency.

The ban deepens already strained relations between London and Tehran.

Iran has long faced Western sanctions over its nuclear programme and alleged support for militant groups.

The UK’s latest move signals a tougher stance, aligning with US and EU measures against Iran.

Analysts warn the decision could trigger retaliatory steps from Tehran, including further restrictions on British interests in the region.

The proposed legislation will be debated in Parliament this week. If passed, it will give prosecutors broader powers to act against individuals or groups linked to the IRGC.
Iran, meanwhile, has vowed to challenge the decision diplomatically and maintain its position that the IRGC is a legitimate military force.
