At least 27 people have died and dozens more sustained injuries after a massive fire broke out in a popular bar in Bangkok, Thailand.
The blaze started late Friday night at the Mountain B bar, located on the outskirts of Bangkok. Witnesses said the fire spread rapidly, trapping patrons inside the crowded venue.
Emergency officials confirmed that 27 bodies were recovered, while several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. Many of the injured suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. Rescue teams worked through the night to contain the fire and evacuate survivors.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that faulty electrical wiring may have triggered the blaze. Officials are also examining whether the bar complied with safety regulations, including fire exits and emergency equipment.
Survivors described scenes of panic as people struggled to escape through narrow exits. Some patrons reportedly broke windows to flee the inferno. Videos shared on social media showed flames engulfing the building within minutes.
Thailand’s Prime Minister expressed condolences to the families of the victims and ordered a thorough probe. He directed relevant agencies to provide medical support and compensation to survivors and families of the deceased.
The tragedy has reignited concerns about safety standards in entertainment venues across Thailand. Experts say overcrowding, poor emergency planning, and weak enforcement of safety laws contribute to such disasters.
Foreign embassies in Bangkok have been notified as some of the victims are believed to be foreign nationals. Several countries have offered assistance in identifying victims and supporting rescue operations.
Police have sealed off the site and are questioning the bar’s management. Officials pledged to hold those responsible accountable if negligence is established.
