Stakeholders Seek Private Sector Role in Maternal Health Reforms

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s health sector have called for stronger collaboration between government, the private sector and development partners to accelerate maternal health reforms and expand healthcare financing nationwide.

The call was made Thursday at a National Policy Dialogue themed Institutionalising Health Financing and Digital Health Innovations in Nigeria, organised by the Accountability Commitment for Innovative Optimism and Excellence Foundation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Participants at the dialogue emphasised the need to institutionalise digital health innovations capable of reducing preventable maternal deaths, framing private sector integration as central to achieving that goal.

Speakers argued that sustainable maternal health reforms would require moving beyond government funded pilot programmes toward structured public private partnerships capable of scaling proven interventions nationwide.

The dialogue reflects continued policy attention on Nigeria’s maternal mortality challenge, which remains among the highest globally despite years of targeted government and donor interventions.

Organisers said the recommendations from the dialogue would be compiled into a policy brief for submission to relevant health authorities as part of ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s maternal healthcare financing architecture.
