US Mission Hails Nigerian Doctor Over Kidney Care Innovation

The United States Mission in Nigeria has commended Nigerian American physician and entrepreneur, Dr Ikenna Okezie, for his contributions to transforming kidney care and expanding access to quality healthcare in the United States.

In a post on its official social media handle, the mission described Okezie as the Chief Executive Officer and co founder of Somatus, a company that provides in home dialysis support for patients with chronic kidney disease.

“Nigerian American physician and entrepreneur Dr Ikenna Okezie is transforming kidney care as CEO and co founder of Somatus, a company providing in home dialysis support for patients with chronic kidney disease,” the mission’s post read.

The recognition highlights the continued impact of Nigerian diaspora professionals in specialised fields of medicine and healthcare innovation abroad, adding to a growing list of diaspora success stories celebrated by US institutions.

Okezie’s work in expanding access to in home dialysis care reflects broader innovations in chronic disease management that have attracted attention from healthcare policymakers and investors in the United States.

The commendation comes as Nigeria continues efforts to formally engage diaspora health professionals through initiatives such as the recently launched Nigerians in Diaspora Advanced Health Programme, aimed at connecting expertise abroad with healthcare needs at home.
