FG Urges Students to Embrace AI, Coding as NELFUND Disburses N282bn

Enugu State – The Federal Government has urged Nigerian students to embrace artificial intelligence, coding, robotics and other digital skills as part of efforts to position the country for the global knowledge economy.

The call was made Friday during the Renewed Hope Students’ Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme for the South East Zone, held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

Selected students at the event received laptop computers to enhance digital learning and innovation, part of a broader push to equip Nigerian students with tools for participation in the digital economy.

The programme comes as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund disclosed it has disbursed N282 billion to support students nationwide, reflecting sustained government investment in expanding access to tertiary education financing.

Officials at the event emphasised that digital skills including AI and coding are increasingly essential for graduate employability, both within Nigeria and in the global digital economy.

The South East leg of the Digital Acceleration Programme is expected to be followed by similar engagements in other geopolitical zones, as the Federal Government continues its push to expand digital literacy nationwide.
