The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Leo underwent a successful lung operation to remove a cancerous growth. The procedure was carried out at a Rome hospital, and doctors reported that the pontiff is recovering well.

Medical officials said the operation was necessary after tests revealed a malignant growth in the Pope’s lung. Surgeons removed the affected tissue and declared the procedure successful. The Vatican added that the Pope is under close observation and will remain in hospital for further recovery.

In a brief statement, Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said the Pope’s condition is stable. He noted that the pontiff is receiving post-surgical care and thanked medical staff for their professionalism. The statement also asked the faithful to continue praying for the Pope’s health.

News of the surgery has drawn reactions from Catholic communities worldwide. Clergy and lay faithful expressed relief that the operation was successful. Messages of support have poured in from leaders across Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

In Nigeria, the Catholic Bishops Conference urged members to pray for the Pope’s full recovery. Parish priests across the country included special intentions for the pontiff during Mass.

This is not the first time Pope Leo has faced health challenges. He has previously undergone medical procedures for respiratory issues. Vatican officials have consistently assured the public that the Pope remains committed to his duties despite health concerns.

The Pope’s health is closely watched because of his central role in the Catholic Church. Analysts say the successful surgery will ease concerns about continuity of leadership. However, they note that the Vatican may adjust the Pope’s schedule to allow for rest.

Doctors will monitor the pontiff’s recovery over the coming weeks. Vatican officials said updates will be provided as necessary. For now, the Pope is expected to remain in hospital until doctors are satisfied with his progress.
