Tension gripped the University of Jos (UNIJOS) community after a beheaded man’s body was discovered within the institution’s premises. The gruesome find sparked panic among students and staff, raising fears about security lapses on campus.
Eyewitnesses said the body was found in a secluded area of the university. The head was missing, leaving the scene horrifying. Students who stumbled upon the body immediately alerted security personnel, who then contacted the police.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident. Spokesperson DSP Alfred Alabo said officers were deployed to secure the scene and commence investigations. He assured the public that the police would unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring perpetrators to justice.
The UNIJOS management described the discovery as disturbing. Officials said the institution is cooperating fully with security agencies. They urged students to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten tension.
The incident has renewed concerns about safety within Nigerian universities. Students expressed fear over the possibility of cult-related violence or criminal infiltration on campus. Parents and guardians also called for tighter security measures to protect lives.
Police said preliminary findings suggest the killing may have occurred outside the campus, with the body later dumped inside. However, investigators are exploring all angles, including cult clashes and ritual-related motives.
Residents around the university condemned the act, describing it as barbaric. Many urged authorities to intensify patrols and surveillance in and around UNIJOS. Civil society groups also called for urgent action to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The police have assured that forensic experts are examining the body to gather evidence. Security agencies are also working with the university to track suspicious movements and strengthen campus safety.
