Opposition Presses Tinubu Over Insecurity and Hardship

Opposition leaders have stepped up pressure on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria. The latest criticism came from the Conference of United Political Parties, which said the administration has failed to meet public expectations.

The coalition said it supports calls for stronger leadership from the president. It argued that Nigerians are facing rising prices, insecurity and declining trust in government action.

That message reflects a wider political mood as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 election cycle. Political actors are using security and hardship as major talking points against the government.

2027 Politics Already Heating Up

Some opposition groups say the present administration must do more to prove it can protect lives and improve livelihoods. By contrast, supporters of the government say reforms need time before results become visible.

The issue has also surfaced in comments about insecurity being used as a political weapon ahead of the next election. Senate President Godswill Akpabio earlier said insecurity is being sponsored to distract Tinubu ahead of elections, a claim that has continued to stir debate.

For now, the opposition’s message is simple: deliver better security and ease the economic pain, or face stronger resistance. That stance is likely to shape the tone of the months ahead.

Government Under Pressure

Tinubu’s administration has faced repeated criticism from rival groups since taking office, especially over attacks on communities and the rising cost of living. Meanwhile, the presidency has insisted that reforms and security responses are ongoing.

The political contest is likely to intensify as parties build narratives around performance, trust and national safety. The next round of public debate will probably center on whether the government can show visible gains before campaign season deepens.
