Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled multiple attack attempts by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters targeting suburbs on the outskirts of Maiduguri, preventing the insurgents from infiltrating the Borno State capital.

Military sources said the coordinated defensive operations disrupted what appeared to be a multi-pronged approach by ISWAP fighters attempting to breach community defences around Maiduguri, with troops repelling the attackers before they could reach populated areas.

The foiled attacks come amid a sustained military push against terrorist networks in the North-East, with Operation HADIN KAI continuing search-and-clear missions across Borno’s rural axis in recent weeks, including operations that have rescued multiple groups of kidnap victims from insurgent-held territory.

Troops have intensified patrols and surveillance around communities bordering known insurgent corridors following a series of attempted infiltrations, with military commanders crediting improved intelligence-sharing and community collaboration for the successful defensive actions.

The development comes as security agencies nationwide continue to grapple with overlapping threats from insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West and North-Central, and kidnapping-for-ransom syndicates operating across multiple states.

Military authorities have urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, stressing that sustained community cooperation remains critical to preventing future infiltration attempts.
