Man City Eye £51m Move for Kone After Man United Pull Out

Manchester City are reportedly preparing a £51 million bid for Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné after rivals Manchester United withdrew from the race to sign him.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that City are keen to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new season, with Koné identified as a long-term target. The French midfielder has impressed in the Bundesliga with his energy, ball-winning ability, and versatility, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

Manchester United had previously been linked with Koné but are understood to have shifted focus to other targets. Their withdrawal has opened the door for City to move decisively, with Pep Guardiola keen to add depth to his squad following recent departures.

Koné, 23, has been a consistent performer for Mönchengladbach, earning praise for his composure and tactical awareness. Analysts believe his style of play could complement City’s midfield, which already boasts talents such as Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Mateo Kovačić.

A source within City’s recruitment team reportedly described Koné as “a player with the right profile for the Premier League,” highlighting his ability to adapt quickly to different tactical systems.

While no official bid has been confirmed, reports indicate that City are willing to meet Mönchengladbach’s valuation of around £51 million. Negotiations are expected to progress in the coming weeks, with the German club open to selling if their asking price is met.

Fans have reacted with mixed feelings, with some welcoming the potential addition while others question whether City need further reinforcements in midfield. Guardiola has maintained that squad depth is essential to compete across multiple competitions, including the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups.

Koné himself has not publicly commented on the speculation, but insiders suggest he is open to a move to England if the right offer arrives.

Football analysts say the transfer could be one of the key moves of the summer, especially given City’s track record of integrating young talents into their system. They argue that Koné’s arrival would not only strengthen the squad but also provide Guardiola with more tactical flexibility.

For now, the focus remains on whether City will formalize their interest with an official bid and whether Mönchengladbach will agree to the deal.

If completed, the transfer would mark another significant investment by Manchester City as they continue to build a squad capable of dominating both domestically and in Europe.
