LAUSANNE — Tobi Amusan delivered another dominant performance at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting, winning the 100 metres hurdles in a time that further solidifies her status as the world’s premier hurdler. The Guardian Nigeria confirmed the victory on Friday. Amusan clocked a fast time that placed her at the top of the 2026 Diamond League standings.
The victory in Lausanne follows her meet record performance in Rabat earlier in the season. Amusan is now unbeaten in Diamond League hurdles competitions in 2026. Her consistency, from Rabat to Lausanne to her African Championships gold medal in Accra, has been extraordinary.
Amusan said after the race that she is building toward the World Athletics Championships with confidence. She said every Diamond League win adds to her mental preparation for the championships. She said she is in the best shape of her career and is not taking anything for granted.
World Record Holder in Full Flight
Amusan’s world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, remains the standard in the event. Her 2026 season times in the 12.71 range at Rabat show she is operating consistently at world-class level. A championship run in the 12.40s or below would make her virtually uncatchable.
Nigeria’s athletics calendar is reaching a peak period. Amusan in the hurdles and Ogazi in the 400m give Nigeria two genuine world championship medal contenders simultaneously. The combination is the strongest Nigeria has had in track and field in over a generation.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria said it is providing full logistical and financial support for both athletes to peak at the World Athletics Championships. Federation President Tonobok Okowa said Nigeria expects medals from both Amusan and Ogazi and that the country is watching their preparations with enormous pride.
