In a dramatic courtroom development, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the high-profile N12.3 billion fraud charges brought by the EFCC against Honeywell Group Chairman Oba Otudeko and former First Bank MD Olabisi Onasanya.

Out-of-Court Resolution

The case was terminated after EFCC prosecutors informed the court that all parties had reached a comprehensive settlement. The dismissal marks the end of a legal battle that also involved:

Legal Heavyweights Seal Deal

  • Kehinde Ogunwumiju for Akintayo

First Bank’s counsel confirmed the resolution in open court, validating the settlement agreement that had been negotiated through the Attorney-General’s office.

Why This Matters:
The case’s collapse through private settlement rather than judicial determination raises questions about Nigeria’s corporate accountability mechanisms, particularly for high-profile financial cases. Legal experts suggest this outcome may influence how similar white-collar cases are handled in future.

As corporate Nigeria watches closely, will this settlement encourage more out-of-court resolutions for complex financial cases? The implications for Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts remain to be seen.
