Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has strongly criticized a group of opposition politicians for what he described as the “hijacking” of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to serve their personal ambitions.

In a Facebook post shared late Wednesday, Onanuga accused the coalition of being power-hungry “desperados” who are less interested in national development and more focused on challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

He said the group’s sudden presentation of the ADC as a “new political platform” is a calculated move to gain political relevance, warning that such coalitions, built on self-interest, rarely last.

“These politicians did not take over the ADC to help Nigerians,” he wrote. “They hijacked it for their own power games. Their personal and political ambitions are so divided that this alliance will soon collapse.”

Onanuga also pointed out that some members of the group were formerly in the APC but left months or even years ago due to internal disagreements or failed aspirations.

The presidential aide’s remarks come just after the coalition publicly introduced the ADC as its unifying platform for the 2027 elections—an event seen by analysts as a potential shake-up in Nigeria’s political landscape.

As Nigeria moves closer to another major election cycle, tensions between the ruling APC and emerging opposition forces are expected to intensify.
