Recess Announcement

On Thursday, the Senate officially began its annual recess, adjourning plenary sessions until Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement following the adoption of a motion by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC Ekiti Central), during a brief session.

Ongoing Oversight Duties

Despite the recess, Akpabio emphasized that senators are not on a complete holiday. He reminded them of their ongoing responsibility to oversee various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), particularly focusing on projects being executed in their respective constituencies across Nigeria.

In addition to their legislative duties, Akpabio encouraged senators to attend the funeral of Senator Diket Plang’s wife, scheduled for Friday in Jos, Plateau State. This gesture underscores the camaraderie and support among lawmakers during times of personal loss.
