Nine Super Falcons Players Arrive Camp Ahead 2026 WAFCON

Nine players of Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have reported to camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the arrival of the players, marking the official start of the team’s training programme. The camp opened on Sunday, with the first batch of players checking in at the designated hotel before heading to training sessions.

Among the early arrivals are goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Osinachi Ohale, and forward Rasheedat Ajibade. They were joined by six other teammates, forming the core of the squad expected to be strengthened in the coming days as more players arrive from their clubs abroad.

The coaching crew, led by interim head coach, has scheduled daily training sessions at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The focus is on fitness, tactical drills, and team cohesion ahead of the qualifiers.

Officials disclosed that the camp will remain open until the full squad assembles. Players based in Europe and the United States are expected to join later this week, depending on club commitments.

The NFF emphasised that the early arrival of key players demonstrates commitment to Nigeria’s quest for another continental title. Nigeria remains the most successful team in WAFCON history, with nine titles, and the federation is determined to maintain dominance.

Team officials also confirmed that medical checks and fitness assessments are being conducted to ensure all players are in peak condition. The technical staff is prioritising injury prevention and recovery management, given the demanding schedule ahead.

The Super Falcons are drawn against tough opponents in the qualifiers, and the coaching crew is keen on building a competitive squad. The camp will serve as a platform to test new strategies and integrate younger players into the team.

Fans and analysts have expressed optimism about the team’s chances, citing the blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents. The arrival of Nnadozie, Ajibade, and Ohale is seen as a morale boost, given their leadership roles in past tournaments.

The NFF assured supporters that logistics and welfare arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth camp. Training kits, medical support, and accommodation have been provided, while security measures around the camp have been tightened.

The qualifiers are scheduled to begin later this year, with Nigeria aiming to secure early victories to ease pressure in subsequent rounds. The Super Falcons are also using the camp to prepare for potential international friendlies that will sharpen their competitive edge.

This development signals the start of Nigeria’s campaign for the 2026 WAFCON, as the team looks to reclaim continental glory and secure qualification for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
