EKSU Commissions TETFund ICT Centre, Praises Education Reforms

ADO-EKITI — Ekiti State University has commissioned a new ICT centre funded through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. Blueprint reported the inauguration on Monday. The centre houses computer labs, high-speed internet infrastructure, and digital learning facilities that will serve thousands of students.

EKSU Vice Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina praised the Tinubu administration’s education reform agenda during the commissioning ceremony. He said the government’s commitment to funding TETFund projects has improved infrastructure at universities across the country in tangible and measurable ways.

The ICT centre is equipped with over 200 workstations, a digital library interface, a coding and innovation hub, and a multimedia production studio. The facility will support computer science, engineering, and information systems programs while also serving other faculties that require digital tools.

TETFund’s Role

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund collects a levy from companies operating in Nigeria and distributes the funds to public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for infrastructure and academic improvement projects. TETFund-funded projects have built laboratories, lecture halls, hostels, and now ICT centres across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

Nigerian universities have been calling for increased TETFund allocations and faster project approval processes. Many campuses still lack basic internet connectivity and functioning computer labs. The EKSU commissioning shows what is possible when TETFund processes work efficiently.

NANS, the National Association of Nigerian Students, praised the EKSU ICT centre inauguration but said universities in the northwest and northeast face even more acute infrastructure deficits. They called on TETFund to prioritise underserved regions in its next allocation cycle.
