Premier League club Brentford have confirmed that defender Michael Kayode, who has been linked with a possible switch to represent Nigeria at senior international level, has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
Kayode, who was born in Borgomanero, Italy, has previously represented Italy at youth level but remains eligible to switch allegiance to the Super Eagles, a possibility that has generated growing interest among Nigerian football followers given the defender’s rising profile in English football.
The new deal ties Kayode to Brentford for the coming seasons, providing stability for the club’s defensive plans while keeping the door open for national team suitors, including Nigeria, to continue monitoring his international eligibility situation.

Nigerian football scouts have increasingly focused on dual-eligible players based in Europe as part of a broader push to strengthen the Super Eagles’ player pool, particularly following the team’s failure to qualify for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Nigeria Football Federation has not commented on Kayode specifically, but has previously indicated an openness to engaging European-born, Nigerian-eligible players as part of its rebuilding strategy following the World Cup qualifying disappointment.
Kayode’s continued development at Premier League level is seen by Nigerian football observers as a potential asset for the Super Eagles’ future squad depth, should a nationality switch eventually materialise.
