Nigerian troops have arrested several individuals accused of serving as informants and logistics suppliers to terrorist groups in Borno State. The arrests were made during coordinated operations aimed at disrupting insurgent networks in the northeast.
According to military sources, the suspects were apprehended in different locations across Borno. They were allegedly responsible for providing terrorists with food, fuel, and intelligence on troop movements.
The operations were carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who acted on credible intelligence. Officials said the arrests would weaken the supply chain of insurgents operating in the region.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects were under interrogation. The military emphasised that cutting off logistics support is critical to defeating terrorism.
Spokesman Major General Edward Buba stated that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in the northeast.
Security analysts believe the arrests will disrupt insurgent activities, as logistics suppliers play a vital role in sustaining operations. Informants have been known to provide terrorists with information about troop deployments, enabling ambushes and attacks.
By targeting these networks, the military aims to reduce the frequency of attacks on communities and security personnel.
Residents in affected areas welcomed the arrests, describing them as a relief. Community leaders urged the military to continue monitoring local collaborators who aid insurgents.
They also called for stronger community engagement to identify suspicious activities and prevent infiltration by terrorist sympathisers.
The northeast has faced persistent attacks from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Both groups rely heavily on informants and suppliers to sustain their operations.
The military has intensified clearance operations in recent months, targeting hideouts and supply routes. Officials say these efforts are yielding results, with several insurgents neutralised and collaborators arrested.
The arrest of terrorist informants and logistics suppliers in Borno highlights the military’s strategy of cutting off support systems that sustain insurgent groups. While challenges remain, the operations demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the northeast.
