A former member of the House of Representatives, Teejay Yusuf, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to focus on resolving the internal leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress rather than blaming the Independent National Electoral Commission for the party’s challenges.
Yusuf’s comments, made in Abuja, come amid an escalating dispute within the ADC over its leadership structure, which has complicated the party’s efforts to finalise its candidate nominations ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former lawmaker argued that internal disorganisation, rather than any bias from the electoral umpire, remains the primary obstacle to the ADC presenting a credible and unified opposition ticket for the 2027 polls.
The ADC has in recent days been embroiled in a dispute over document authenticity, with a faction loyal to the party’s interim leadership petitioning INEC over what it described as unauthorised nominee uploads by a rival group.
Political observers say the unresolved leadership question continues to cast uncertainty over the ADC’s viability as a coalition vehicle for opposition figures ahead of next year’s election cycle.
Atiku’s camp has not directly responded to Yusuf’s comments, though the former vice president has continued to publicly position the ADC as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of 2027.
